Whether you want a relaxing family float or heart-racing whitewater thrills, Central Oregon has a rafting experience to suit every adventure level. Central Oregon's Deschutes River is the primary waterway for guided and self-guided rafting adventures with some of the most enjoyable rapids in the State. The river begins high in the Cascade Mountains of Central Oregon then decends over 4500 feet as it winds through pine forests, lava fields and high desert plateaus on its nearly 300 mile, northward course to join the Columbia River. The Deschutes River was given its name by fur traders of the Hudson Bay Company who once called it the "Riviere des chutes," or "river of falls." Outfitters are available to arrange guided half-day, all-day or multi-day rafting trips or you can do your own flat water trip and rent float tubes, kayaks or canoes from select outfitters. ......................................................
